LOCAL WHEREVER YOU GO
After years of living in cosmopolitan cities such as New York City, Paris, London, Amsterdam and Melbourne and experiencing their cultures and getting to know their people and their habits, I feel as if I can call myself a citizen of the world. This thought me to truly get to know the cities, the cultures and the hospitality scenes.
Aside from living in cosmopolitan cities my entire adult life, the hospitality scene and traveling has been instilled in me since birth. My mother was a flight attendant some forty years ago and even then she also enjoyed watching Manhattan wake up with an early breakfast at a cafe, or enjoy watching baseball games between kids from various neighbourhoods in Central Park on Sundays. She also had so many different stories about her favourite cities like San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo and Bangkok.
Meanwhile, my father started his hospitality consultancy company almost 38 years ago. I too have become a bit more attached to a homebase and now work, in my father’s footsteps, within the hospitality landscape of the Netherlands. All while still travelling to my old stumping grounds with great regularity!
Together with my sister, Robin, who has spent time and lived in places like London, Rome, Lyon and Singapore, we decided to share the art of experiencing metropolises like a local with you. After all, it’s all in the details of the experiences you seek out. There really is a difference whether you are dining with locals or dining with other tourists.
We hope to inspire you with “tourist traps” that are actually worth your time, local dinners, stunning and affordable accommodations and our favourite places to shop. No endlessly long lists, not just the ‘most expensive’ restaurants or hotels in town, we just tell you where to go for a really good time, delicious dinners and super fun experiences.
